Credentials

Bob Dawson’s trial skills have been recognized by others in his election as the President of the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, his “AV” rating (the highest possible) by Martindale-Hubbell, and his selection as a Washington “Super Lawyer” by Washington Law and Politics Magazine.

Bob’s persistence and effort for his clients is demonstrated by the times he has taken cases turned down by other lawyers and obtained superior outcomes, including verdicts of several million dollars. Mr. Dawson is one of only a few lawyers in the state regularly handling insurance bad faith cases. He has handled claims against most of the major insurers in the state and has fought insurance claims all the way to the State Supreme Court.

Bob has attended the “invitation only” Trial Lawyer’s College at the Wyoming ranch of Gerry Spence, one of the legal profession’s most highly regarded trial lawyers. During this three week program each summer, selected trial attorneys attend intense training sessions in advanced litigation techniques. Bob has been recently selected to serve on the faculty of the Trial Lawyers College. Bob attempts to employ these skills in every phase of our client’s case in order to assure the optimum outcome for the client.

Additionally, for several years Bob has led the — always sold out — four day retreat known as “BOB DAWSON'S TRIAL WORKSHOP” at Alderbrook Resort, sponsored by the Washinton State Attorneys for Justice, this workshop imparts critical trial skills to attorneys with limited trial experience.

Finally, Bob has been teaching the fundamentals of the legal system to undergraduates at the University of Washington for over thirty years through his course “Introduction to Law.

CASES NOT INVOLVING MONETARY AWARDS

Brain Injury/Governmental Abuse. This was a jury verdict establishing that the Department of Labor and Industries abused its discretion in failing to compromise its lien against our client’s brain injury claim. It is reported to be the only case in the state to successfully challenge such a decision by the Department. The case resulted in additional monetary compensation to our client and eligibility for fourteen years of worker’s compensation benefits previously denied by the Department.

Hoffman v. Weakley, No. 12075-5, Division I, January 8, 1990. The insurance company appealed one of Bob's cases to the State Supreme Court and attempted to declare unconstitutional the mandatory arbitration system in use in Washington, a program that allows some injured people to resolve their claims quickly and inexpensively. The Washington Court of Appeals entered a decision that upheld the constitutionality of Washington's Mandatory Arbitration Rules, and left in place the mandatory arbitration system, a system still in use today to resolve cases quickly and at low cost.
